Down town in Osaka

Traditional symbols of Osaka are Osaka castle and Tsutenkaku and around  Tsutenkaku area is called Shinsekai.  Shihnsekai literally means new world because this area was  developed as an new amusement quarter.  Many cheap hotels for day laborers have been recently changed to the accomodation for backpackers.  There are also many cheap restauranss in this area.  If you want to save your travelling budgt, then I recommend you to stay here in Osaka.

Izakaya(Japanese tavern)

After working we often go to Izakaya(japanese tavern) where various kinds of food and drink are served and prices are usually very reasonable.  Some Izakaya offer an all-you can-drink service after opening the tavern for one or two hours.

Today is the doll's festival

Families with girls celebrate March 3rd as a day to wish for their growth and happiness.  This family event originally began in the Edo period and is referred to as the doll's festival because families of girls display a set of dolls representing the emperor, empress, their servants, miniature furniture, and so forth,on a five or seven-tiered stand.  Dolls are called hina dolls and there is an exhibition of hina dolls held near my house today.  These dolls are made of Japanese paper.

Where you can see samurai in Osaka

If you want to see and take a picture togethere with samurai in Osaka then go to Osaka castle on the  third Saturday around 11:00am.  There are many samurai in armour cleaning who are  voluntarily cleaning Osaka castle on that day.  They are very friendly and glad to be taken picture with tourists.
